Hash Club Harriers, is a running club, started somewhere by some British ex-pats, or soldiers, that used to run in Malaysia once a week to a pub, and then get some cold drinks. It is now one of the biggest clubs in the world, and is in almost every country. Ours in Gizo meets each Thursday evening at PT 109, and goes for a 30-45 min run, then has a fish BBQ, and cold beer at the end. In Solomon tradition we generally go through villages and BBQ on the beach. Most ex-pats in town participate, giving everyone some exercise and some time away from work to have some good fellowship.
This last weekend, we had a special, Saturday run, where we all went to fatboys for the day. Instead of running, all fifteen people got into one of their boats, pulled up the motor, and paddled about 1.5 KM to another island Olassana. It was a fun group activity everyone working together, and we could rotate the paddlers and people drinking beer from the esky on the boat. It took about thirty minutes to reach Olassana, where we all walked the beach around the island, a nice 40 minute walk along sand, rock, and through the water, where everyone had a swim. We then cheated and used the motor on the boat to go back to fatboys, where there chef had prepared a great bbq of burgers and sausages, I always look forward to a meal with out fish! I need to get some photos, the day was the perfect mix of exercise and fun!
PS My camera is not working too well at the moment, so I have scrounge photos off of others.
