Bike Rides and Nemo

It has been a long time since an update. Things here have been quite
slow, not many divers, so just a few dives on the weekends. In the
week we have been doing some maintenance, and started building a boat
shed to work on fiberglass. It will have a leaf roof, which is much
cheaper then steel for the materials, but much more in labor. It will
be about 14 days labor for 6 people to build the roof panels to put
up. They come out about even in cost, but the leaf roof is cooler,
and has about the same life, and easier to maintain.

Today I ordered some lunch to go in town, and got a friend Nathan that
also has a dirt bike and rode around the island. It had some gorgeous
views, but was quite tiring as the roads are very bad, and you must go
slow just to avoid large rocks, average speed was about 15km an hour.

I came back from the ride, and Nemo was going crazy. He had not been
out for a long walk all day, so I had an idea. He will almost always
follow me, unless there is a nice sheila around. So got on the bike
called him, and rode 3km to a village, then turned around and had him
follow me back. He can get up to about 35km an hour, but on the way
back he got very tired, and just jumped in the mud and laid down. So
I walked to a house and bought a coconut. I found an old husk to use
as a drinking bowl for him and we rested and shared the water, before
continuing on at a slower pace. We made it back and he is happily
sleeping at my feet, no longer hyper. I think I have found a good way
to walk a dog that has too much energy!

Luke you continue to amaze me. I think you will be greatly missed when you leave Gizo, by man and beasts.

this reminds me of a picture i once saw of a person driving in a car with his hand out the window holding the dogs leash...way to westernize the Solomons.

it occured to me that when you get out of Gizo you need to change your blog name to "found".
